PLASTIC FREE DELAWARE
Dr. Jane Goodall visited Wilmington, Delaware in January 2012 and we were thrilled to meet her and present a gift to her of our reusable jute bag. It was on stage with her during her talk, sitting under Mr. H, and Dr. Jane even gave it a plug during Q&A!
The Roots & Shoots program out of the Jane Goodall Institute is about making positive change happen—for our communities, for animals and for the environment. The Brandywine Sprouts Chapter, based in northern New Castle County, Delaware, was inspired to take action regarding a problem in our communities: plastic pollution. Specifically, light weight "single use" plastic bags which litter our communities, enter our watersheds, are consumed by animals with tragic results, and clog our stormwater systems and our recycling plants.
The Brandywine Sprouts are connected with tens of thousands of young people in almost 100 countries, where the Roots & Shoots network connects youth of all ages who share a desire to create a better world. Young people identify problems in their communities and take action. Through service projects in youth-led campaigns, Roots & Shoots members are making a difference across the globe.
The BringYourOwnBag campaign was launched in 2011 to undertake educational outreach and awareness building to bring about positive change regarding the issue of plastic pollution. We invite you to join us!
